天门山 Tiānmén Shān / Heaven’s door mountain.
During our trip to Hunan we stopped in a few places, Heaven’s door also called Tianmenshan in Chinese was one of the highlights of our trip.

After spending some days at the Zhangjiajie National Park, we head to the city and went straight away to our hotel to leave our luggage. We stayed in the backpacker’s area and spent one night in a very affordable hotel. The same day we went directly to Tianmenshan.

We had in hand our COVID test, passports and phones ready to translate any questions in Chinese. We purchased the tickets online one night before so we expected the check-in would be really fast.
Since we are foreigners we had to fill a very long-form explaining where we live and when we entered the country, etc. A few minutes later we had our tickets and we could move forward.

Bad news, we had the drone with us and it is not allowed to bring this device inside the park. We had to leave our drone at the entrance in a very exposed big “locker” so keep this in mind if you own a drone and visit Heaven’s door.

Once you are all set up you enter to the cable car area, this ride is around 28 minutes long and the view gets better and better when you approach the top of the mountain.

There are different variations and routes, we decided to take the cable car first, walk down the 999 stairs, take another cable car down (in the opposite side) and finally take a bus that takes you to point A. You can do all this the way around but that means you walk the 999 steps to the top.

The cable car ride to the top was one of the nicest I ever had, the landscape is just beautiful and invites you to take many many pictures.
After 28 minutes we arrived at the top and start walking around, there are a lot of things to do, temples to visit, etc. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a lot of time and the weather was not helping at all, we had rain our entire time there.
So we went straight to the point and walk to Heaven’s gate. Before that you have to take some staircases to the top of heavens gate, this means that the gate is not the highest point here. The way down there is very long and we counted more than 7 staircases, so this was a bit boring because it is indoor.

After some minutes we arrived finally at the door, it was so foggy that we couldn’t see at all. Once we were walking down the starts we could see some light and the clouds moving through the gate, this was a real magical moment.

We walked around for some minutes, enjoy the view and head back to the cable car that would take us down. This cable car is really big and the capacity is for more than 50 people. Once down we took the minibus that drives back to point A. From here we took a taxi to our hotel, took a very hot shower and rest a little bit.

La puerta del cielo de China

Durante nuestro viaje a Hunan paramos en algunos lugares, la puerta del cielo también llamada Tianmenshan en Chino fue uno de los aspectos más destacados de nuestro viaje.

Después de pasar unos días en el Parque Nacional de Zhangjiajie, nos dirigimos a la ciudad y nos dirigimos directamente a nuestro hotel para dejar nuestro equipaje. Nos alojamos en la zona de mochileros y pasamos una noche en un hotel muy asequible. El mismo día fuimos directamente a Tianmenshan.

Teníamos en mano nuestro test COVID, pasaportes y teléfonos listos para traducir cualquier duda al chino. Compramos los boletos en línea una noche antes, así que esperábamos que el check-in fuera muy rápido.
Como somos extranjeros tuvimos que llenar un formulario muy largo explicando dónde vivimos y cuándo entramos al país, etc. Unos minutos después teníamos nuestros boletos y pudimos seguir adelante.

Malas noticias, teníamos el dron con nosotros y no está permitido llevar este dispositivo dentro del parque. Tuvimos que dejar nuestro dron en la entrada en un gran “casillero” muy expuesto, así que ten esto en cuenta si tienes un dron y visitas la puerta del cielo.

Una vez que esté todo listo, ingrese al área del teleférico, este viaje dura alrededor de 28 minutos y la vista mejora cada vez más cuando se acerca a la cima de la montaña.

Hay diferentes variaciones y rutas, decidimos tomar el teleférico primero, bajar las 999 escaleras, bajar otro teleférico (en el lado opuesto) y finalmente tomar un autobús que te lleva al punto A. Puedes hacer todo esto. el camino alrededor, pero eso significa que caminas los 999 escalones hasta la cima.

El viaje en teleférico hasta la cima fue uno de los más bonitos que he tenido, el paisaje es simplemente hermoso y te invita a tomar muchas fotos.
Después de 28 minutos llegamos a la cima y comenzamos a caminar, hay muchas cosas que hacer, templos que visitar, etc. Desafortunadamente, no tuvimos mucho tiempo y el clima no ayudó en absoluto, tuvimos llueve todo nuestro tiempo allí.
Así que fuimos directamente al grano y caminamos hasta la puerta del cielo. Antes de eso, debes tomar algunas escaleras hasta la parte superior de la puerta del cielo, esto significa que la puerta no es el punto más alto aquí. El camino de bajada es muy largo y contamos más de 7 escaleras, así que esto fue un poco aburrido porque es interior.

Después de unos minutos llegamos finalmente a la puerta, había tanta niebla que no podíamos ver nada. Una vez que estábamos caminando por las salidas pudimos ver algo de luz y las nubes moviéndose a través de la puerta, este fue un momento mágico real.

Caminamos unos minutos, disfrutamos de la vista y regresamos al teleférico que nos llevaría. Este teleférico es realmente grande y la capacidad es para más de 50 personas. Una vez abajo tomamos el minibús que conduce de regreso al punto A. Desde aquí tomamos un taxi hasta nuestro hotel, tomamos una ducha muy caliente y descansamos un poco.
